Thermal and Hydro Power Systems

Hitachi

Hitachi and Hitachi Power Europe (HPE) have been selected to supply the core components for three new power plants being developed by Electrabel, the leading Belgian energy supplier. One of the plants will be built in Maasvlakte in the Netherlands, the other two in Germany, one at Stade and the other in either Brunsbuttel or Wilhelmshaven. All three plants are scheduled to be fully operational in 2012. The contracts were signed in Brussels on 9 May.

Each of the plants has an order value exceeding 600 million Euros. Hard coal is the primary source of energy alongside biomass in the Netherlands. The plants have an 800 MW capacity and will be linked to the power grid in 2012.

The orders include the delivery and engineering of all the key power plant components, such as the utility steam generator, turbine and generator together with the entire flue gas cleaning system, which facilitates denitrification, dust removal and desulphurization. As a result of this contract, HPE has now secured orders for four Hitachi steam turbines in the European marketplace, emphasizing the company's growing presence in the European energy industry.

Hitachi got the order of Walsum coal-fired power plant unit No. 10 (790MW, western Germany) in November 2006. For the experience, technical capabilities of this project were evaluated synthetically, and Hitachi and HPE resulted in this order received.
Hitachi and HPE continue to promote the ordering of large size coal fired power plant project in Europe.
