Hitachi, Sumitomo Corporation and Italian-Thai Development Public Co. Ltd received the order of 700MW combined cycle power plant from EGAT (Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand). This project is the first overseas order of large-sized combined cycle for Hitachi. The amount of received order is about 40 billion yen, and the contract signing ceremony is held in Bangkok on March 15.
Although the power generation capacity of the Kingdom of Thailand is about 27,000 MW now, the growth of 5 to 6% of power demand will be expected against the background of the firm growth of economy every year from now on. In the power development plan document in 2011 to 2016 "Power Development Plan" which Thailand Department of Energy is mainly drawing up, EGAT makes a plan to build a total of about 6,800 MW new power plants. In Thailand, for the reason of an environmental measure, combined cycle power plants have been mainly constructed and it seems that this trend will continue.
Hitachi aims at expansion of order received while performing an active conduct of business succeeding based on this order in Thailand.
