Hitachi and Babcock-Hitachi received the order of supercritical coal-fired power plant for Keep Hills No. 3 unit owned by EPCOR and TransAlta, which are power producers of the Alberta State of Canada. Contract price is about 50 billion yen, and apparatus will be shipped from 2008. Commercial operation will be started at the first quarter in 2011.
Power demand is extended continuously in Alberta State, and the same trend is expected furthermore. At this State, about a half of power demand depends on coal-fired power plant and 70 percent of the coal is produced in Canada. From the background of such a power demand, it is determined that the new construction of a supercritical coal-fired power plant which is low environmental impact and high efficiency.
Hitachi takes part in future supercritical coal fired power plant projects of North America electricity market positively.
