Consortium of Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric, Toshiba, and Mitsubishi Corporation receive the order for a pumped storage power plant - the first such order awarded by China to Japanese heavy electric machinery manufacturers
Together with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Toshiba Corporation, and Mitsubishi Corporation, Hitachi, Ltd. received the order for a pumped storage power plant from Pumped Storage Power Station Co., Ltd. in Shanxi, China, and formally signed the contract on September 2, 2004.
This plant is the second highest drop height plant among this kind of plant now in operation in the world, and is first such pumped storage power plant awarded by China to Japanese heavy electric machinery manufacturers.
The Xilongchi pumped storage power plant located about 100 km from Taiyuan City, the capital of Shanxi province, was planned based on a yen credit from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and the bid was made on February 10, 2004. As the result of a comprehensive price and technological performance assessment, the Japan consortium of Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric, Toshiba, and Mitsubishi Corporation obtained the priority bargaining right. The consortium then entered into negotiations with the Chinese company and eventually succeeded in formally receiving the order.
The 1st unit of the plant will be delivered in December 2006 (FOB base) and commence operations to coincide with the Peking Olympic being held in August 2008. Also, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th units will be delivered sequentially and commence operations in December 2008, April 2009, and August 2009, respectively.
