Hitachi, Ltd. have received an order for steam turbines and generators for a coal fired power plant to be constructed by Korea's major power company, Korea South East Power Co. for about 10 billion yen.
The order received concerns the 870-megawatt class super critical pressure steam turbine and generator equipment for the No. 3 and 4 units in the Yongjong-to Power Plant constructed in In Chon City at the northeast area in Korea. Hitachi will start production in the Hitachi Works this year with delivery set for 2006. The No. 3 and 4 units will commence commercial operations from 2008 and 2009, respectively.
With the protective policy towards domestic manufacturers in Korea, Doosan Heavy Industry Ltd. of Korea has received orders for its major facilities. In 2001 when the Korea Electric Power Company was divided into five companies, Korea changed its policy and opened the market to overseas companies as well. However, even since then, no overseas company has received an order to supply facilities for thermal power plants.
Commencing with this order received in Korea, where other thermal power plants are scheduled for construction in the future, Hitachi will make an effort to further develop overseas markets.
